When the Nintendo Switch Online service first launched, one of the main selling points was the ability to play classic NES games at no additional charge. 35 earlier this year, and it has made no indication as to if it will ever return. Just like with the other Super Mario anniversary content, Nintendo removed access to Super Mario Bros. It used the same concept as these other games, essentially serving as a Super Mario-themed battle royale, but with a much smaller player count reflecting the 35th anniversary of the Super Mario franchise. The concept behind Pac-Man 99 is similar, but it replaces Tetris gameplay with classic Pac-Man gameplay.īesides Pac-Man 99 and Tetris 99, the Switch Online service also once had a game called Super Mario Bros. The game keeps going until everyone is eliminated and only one player remains. The basic concept is that 99 players are all playing against each other in Tetris and are able to sabotage those on neighboring screens.

Numerous companies have thrown their hats in the ring, developing their own takes on the battle royale genre. But based on history, chances are good that a Nintendo Direct will happen soon.Battle royale games have been all the rage since the meteoric rise of games like PUBG and Fortnite. Whether or not Nintendo hosts a Nintendo Direct within the next months remains to be seen, and since Nintendo sometimes hosts surprise Nintendo Direct events, it's hard to say if fans will even know in advance. One has to imagine that at least one of these games is going to release within the first half of the year, so a Nintenedo Direct presentation that puts them back in the spotlight would make a lot of sense. These include Bayonetta 3, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Splatoon 3, and the untitled Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel. Pokemon Legends: Arceus has a solid release date for later this month and Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp is dropping April 8, but otherwise Nintendo hasn't offered solid release dates for any of the other Nintendo Switch games that it currently has in the pipeline.Īs it stands, there are four Nintendo-published Switch games that are expected to come in 2022 but currently lack a solid release date. It wouldn't be surprising at all if a Nintendo Direct does happen between now and February 17, though, as Nintendo's 2022 slate is currently pretty bare. Samus Hunter's reputation gives them more credibility than other Internet leakers, but it's always best to keep one's expectations in check until an official announcement comes. Nintendo fans should take the information with a grain of salt for now, however. Samus Hunter has promised to reveal more details about the next Nintendo Direct event in the coming days. There have been numerous Nintendo Direct presentations held in January as well, so it seems that fans can expect it to air anytime between now and February 17 - assuming Samus Hunter's information is correct, that is. Nintendo has traditionally hosted Nintendo Direct events in February, with a new Nintendo Direct airing in February nearly every year since it started hosting them a decade ago. Samus Hunter, a reputable Nintendo leaker who has accurately leaked Nintendo news many times in the past, believes that the next Nintendo Direct will happen before February 17. Luckily, it seems that the wait for the next Nintendo Direct presentation could be over sooner rather than later. Nintendo has not hosted a regular Nintendo Direct since last September, hosting game-specific presentations since then and an Indie World showcase, but little else.
